Susannah Haberfeld studied voice and acting at the Royal Northern Collage of Music in Manchester obtaining a B.A. (Hons) in Music. After completing her diploma at the Opera studio in Biel (Switzerland), engagements included the title role in »Saint Joan of the Slaughterhouses«, by Brecht/Fennigstein as well as in Bern and Luxemburg. During the season 2000/01 she sang at the Académie européenne de musique d'Aix-en-Provence in »Don Giovanni« (Director: Peter Brook, Conductor: Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding) and in »The magic Flute« (Third Lady) in Rouen, Caen, Padua and Lisbon and was appeared as Gioconda Farfalla in the world premiere of the specially commissioned opera »Black Tell« for the National Swiss Expo.02.

In 2003 she guested as Nancy in »Martha« in Hof (Germany) and was engaged at the Opera in Bern as Mercedes in »Carmen«, Nireno in »Julius Caesar« as well as Untos Frau in Aulis Sallinens Opera »Kullervo«. Further engagements took her to Opera Ireland, Dublin (Clomiri in Handel’s »Imeneo«, Mercedes in Calixto Bieto's »Carmen«), to Luzern, where she sang Prince Orlowsky in »Die Fledermaus« and to Zürich’s Pocket Opera with »The Mikado« and »The Pirates of Penzance« (Gilbert & Sullivan). In the spring of 2007 she sang the female lead role Dalilah in Saint-Saëns »Samson et Dalilah« at the Berlin Philharmonie and during the Wiener Festwochen in Janacek’s »From the House of the Dead« (Patrice Chéreau / Pierre Boulez). This Production is available on DVD and will was also shown at La Scala, Milano and the Staatsoper Berlin conducted by Esa Pekka Salonen and in Berlin under Sir Simon Rattle.
2007-2010 she was part of the ensemble at the Opera House in Halle/ Saale (Germany) where roles have included Cherubino in »The marriage of Figaro«, Hänsel in »Hänsel und Gretel«, Stella in »Frau Luna«, Second Lady in »The Magic Flute« and Olga in »Jewgeni Onegin«, La Zelatrice in »Suor Angelica«, Elf in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s »Midsummernight’s Dream« (Ballet) and Madelaine in »Madame Pompadour« and Dame Ragonde in Rossini’s »Le Comte Ory«. Also she sung Fatima in the contemporary opera »An Arabian Night« by Christian Jost and »Wunderhorn« by Anno Schreier. She concluded her engagement there with the Production »The Children of Mr. Handel« as part of the Handel Festival in Halle.

Other contemporary Operas have included the lead in newly written Opera »Die Geburt des Täufers« by Jirki Linjama and the lead in »Sara und ihre Männer« at the Carintischer Sommer, Austria, both Church operas. Engagements since then have included Mrs. Sedley in »Peter Grimes« at the Opera Düsseldorf, Leokadja Begbick in »Mahagonny« by Brecht/Weil at the Opera Tel Aviv, Israel, directed by Omri Nitzan and conducted by David Stern. Susannah Haberfeld sang the third Rhinemaiden in Wagner’s »Rheingold« at the Theater Biel/ Solothurn and in Dvorac’s »Rusalka« and 2015/16 Dame Ragonde in Rossini’s »Le Comte Ory«. In the summer 2015 she will give her debut at the Longborogh Festival as Maddalena in Verdi’s »Rigoletto«. Apart from her work as an opera singer, she also has considerable recital and concert experience, such as the »Messa di Requiem« by Verdi and also works as a director and project-manager for opera and theatre specializing in social projects and has and has been organizing the very successful Baby concert series at the TOBS theatre in Biel, Switzerland. Since 2013 she has a MA in Arts Administration from the University Zürich (EMAA).
